Why I Started TLC
I have two absolutely brilliant children. Both of whom struggled throughout their entire K–12 experience. The entire time, I fought the system, trying to get them what they needed to thrive, but nothing worked.
It started with my oldest. She tried so hard— not to succeed, but to survive each day. Still school never understood her. It never helped her see her own brilliance. Instead, it labeled her and made her feel stupid. By the time she reached high school, she begged me to let her drop out. Years later, when my youngest reached high school, he made the very same plea. I was heartbroken.
Traditional education rarely works for children who exhibit "challenging behaviors" or who are neurodiverse. TLC exists to change that. We create an environment where all students thrive, experience success and joy — especially the ones who've been labeled the most "difficult."
I entered education twenty-two years ago and year after year, I watched my students struggle in many of the same ways my own children had — struggling to fit in, feeling disengaged, unable to connect with the curriculum or with their teachers and peers. I knew they needed something different, so I learned everything I could about supporting students who don't thrive in traditional settings.
That path led me to become an instructional coach, supporting teachers from Pre-K through 12th grade. Along the way, I've had the privilege of teaching and learning alongside students from birth to age 18 — and every one of them has shaped why TLC exists today.
